Baby It’s Cold Outside

cold outside themed lunch

Focusing on small fun details while trying to provide an interesting and nutritious lunch is what I try to do best, but every now and again I just can’t resist joining in with the Bento Bloggers and Friends for a themed blog hop. My bento peers are such an inspiration to me! Today’s Winter Wonderlunch hop showcases lunches with winterscapes, snow flakes, snowmen and even more winter fun! I can’t wait to see what everyone has come up with. I had many ideas bouncing in my head when this theme was first chosen. Honestly I only nailed myself down to this one the day before this hop! Ironically in the end I actually drew inspiration from my very own blog!

Last year I did a small portioned lunch for my son Brendan (now a big 6th grader who doesn’t appreciate themed lunches as much anymore). I called the post Home for the Holidays. That lunch featured a cute little house set in a winterscape. I decided to recreate that lunch in a larger scaled version in my EasyLunchboxes container. Looking back I still love that lunchbox I created BUT I am very happy with the updated version I made this year. Tell me, what do you think? Although my house is nestled in red and green I like to think of the blueberries above as a dark, cold sky hence this year’s Baby it’s Cold Outside theme.

This lunch includes:

  • Blueberries
  • Yogurt pretzels
  • Sugar Snap peas & Red peppers
  • A PB&J sandwich
  • Cheese star and moon

Now for more frosty fun, be sure to go visit Grace my amazing friend in the UK to see what she’s got cooking on her blog Eats Amazing! Now hop along and keep warm! :) Happy Holidays!

 100+ teen girl stocking ideas

This is a little off topic from lunch I know. Yet, I can’t help but to share! Recently I have had the opportunity to share thoughts on gift giving with some friends. I have 4 children and have spent many hours pondering what to put in stockings or give as a gift for the holidays. I must admit gift giving is something that I enjoy and quite honestly spending large amounts of time pondering it does thrill me! So I thought over the next 4 weeks as the holidays draw near, I would occasionally share some of my gift ideas. My oldest is 16 years old now and thinking up her gifts is such a throw back to all the things that I loved when I was her age. So this is where we start, 100+ ideas for teen/tween girl’s stocking. I have purposely skipped over food items because those are usually pretty easy to figure out! My own teenage daughter has reviewed this list and given her approval!

For instance for the “organizer” in your life you could pull together gel pens, a planner, a doodle book, stickers, Post-it flags, washi tape and a mini stapler. Many people decorate their planners as they would a scrapbook. It is a snapshot of one’s life after all! You could even hop over to Pinterest, search for your subject and print out instructions or a picture to go with your gift.

I don’t suggest you try to get all 100+ items in a stocking lol! I hope that you’ll forgive and enjoy my foray into the subject of gift giving! Tis the season after all!
